EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!
ReLove has been working with the Maryland SPCA since 2015 to provide a curriculum for educators which teaches humane education, accountability and responsibility to students in the Baltimore community. Serving thousands of children in the greater Baltimore area, we have experienced amazing growth and seen first-hand the positive impact in the lives of many pets and people in the community. As an organization and a community, we KNOW humane education is the way that we can realize the change that we need to see for animals and people.
The program has expanded to a point that our tiny management-based non-profit organization can no longer keep up with the demand, and as such, for it to continue to grow and thrive - it needs to be run by an organization with more manpower and resources. Reaching more than 11,000 students last year, the Maryland SPCA with its robust humane education department and commitment to our community for nearly 150 years was the natural choice for us to transfer ownership of the Education for Responsibility classroom program.
Please contact Katie Flory, the Director of Community Relations for the Maryland SPCA who leads their humane education department

Background on The ReLove Education for Responsibility Program™
ReLove Animals, Inc. believes that Education for Responsibility is the key to eradicating the problem of gross over population in the shelters, abuse and neglect. In our experience, a larger than appropriate amount of animals come from underserved areas that are in need of education for basic animal welfare issues and resources.
Since 2012 we have been giving basic animal welfare presentations in select schools. But it’s not enough.
We can’t educate one class at a time and expect it to make a difference in our lifetime. We must educate every class at one time.
We have designed a program that will be presented and taught by the teachers. It includes project partners giving the ability to have guest speakers from local rescues and shelters.
The teacher leads an engaging conversation with slides, where the children answer the questions based on the pictures and slides they see.
The children are challenged with projects like donation drives and getting involved in their own communities. It is interactive with videos, games and crafts that will be add-ons to the base lessons.
Age appropriate, the program launched with an eight part comprehensive course taught once a month throughout the school year. An advisory board was assembled consisting of school teachers, shelters directors and other local known advocates as well as ReLove Animals, Inc. project managers and directors.
We are thrilled to introduce our program into almost 150 classrooms from 27 schools to the ReLove Education for Responsibility program. The program has been introduced in public, private, and homeschool settings throughout Maryland, as well as in California and Idaho. We will continue to add teachers and schools for next few weeks and kickoff the program next month. Thank you to all the teachers and administrators at these schools for believing that humane education is important and can help make a difference in teaching our students empathy and respect for all living things.

ReLove Animals is working in conjunction with the Maryland SPCA to extend the Education for Responsibility Project. The Maryland SPCA is funding this joint program where Baltimore City students visit the Maryland SPCA and engage with the shelter animals in educational hands-on activities such as reading to the animals, as well as mentoring program and shelter based support strategies. In addition, our LOCAL LOVE humane education event allows us to reach out in the community to embrace and celebrate love of pets! Check our events page for upcoming events. |
